Detailed Job Description

Under the direction of the Chief Instructor the Assistant Chief, assists in supervising flight training activities and personnel in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines and university policies. This position provides management and oversight of Certified Flight Instructors and students in flight training. Assistant Chief Instructors provide a key leadership role in flight operations, training & certification, and safety.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor degree and at least one year experience related to the essential duties or at least five years experience related to the essential duties. Plus meets the Assistant Chief Instructor qualifications required by the CFR PArt 141. Holds a Commercial or ATP Certificate with ASE, AME & Instrument ratings. Current medical certificate, flight review & instrument privileges.


Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations, including Parts 61 and 141.

Knowledge of standard pilot training practices and all applicable information resources.

Knowledge required to demonstrate competence in the privileges of the pilot and instructor certificates held by the applicant.


Must regularly demonstrate competence in all operational duties including piloting, flight instruction, ground instruction, student evaluation, instructor evaluation, managerial and organizational skills.


Able to maintain proficiency and currency relating to required pilot and instructor privileges.

Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Able to use standard word processing and general computer applications. Able to resolve employee and student conflicts or concerns.

Pay Range

$39,889 to $53,186 annually
