Detailed Job Description

The individual sought for this position is expected to help Nevada State College meet its goal of becoming the premiere undergraduate teaching institution in the region. Of paramount importance is the ability to help the college and the School of Education meet the evolving demands faced by higher education in the information age. The successful candidate will leverage advances in instructional technology to create exceptional learning experiences for students and will make data and research-driven decisions to meet programmatic initiatives. The candidate also will exercise superb leadership and interpersonal skills and will balance the daily management of administrative duties with the insight, conviction, and contextual understanding needed to push the School of Education to the forefront of the discipline. In doing so, the individual will foster and maintain strong partnerships with important constituents, including regional public and private schools.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibility of the Dean will be to provide academic, budgetary, administrative, and managerial leadership to the School of Education. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Select, evaluate, and mentor academic faculty
- Create, manage, and implement academic policy
- Promote and maintain a collegial working environment
- Work with faculty to develop and implement academic strategic plans
- Manage the school budget
- Build and maintain lasting partnerships with K-12 schools in the district
- Schedule courses
- Manage a data collection system to generate student reports and guide important initiatives
- Oversee programmatic and student success-oriented endeavors (e.g., retention efforts)
- Oversee program assessment
- Develop and implement curricula
- Coordinate academic advising efforts with the centralized advising office
- Act as primary point of contact for college-wide, interdepartmental relationships and initiatives
- Establish and manage partnerships with external constituents, particularly alumni, prospective students, potential donors
- Resolve formal student, faculty and staff disputes and grievances
- Advance the school through fundraising efforts, strategic partnerships, and new models of teaching and learning
- Maintain relationship with satellite NSC SOE programs/partnerships in the state
- Work with Admissions Office to recruit School of Education students
- Knowledge of higher education internationally
- Experience with policy development at local/state/regional/national and/or international levels

Minimum Qualifications:

- A doctorate in education or another relevant discipline from a regionally-accredited institution
- Three to five years of demonstrated leadership in academic administration at a 4-year college or university
- Experience in evidence-based program assessment
- Evidence of teaching, research, and service sufficient for a faculty appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure.
- Superb interpersonal skills and an ability to work and support faculty, staff, and administrators
- Successful leadership experience in a teacher education program/school or college of education

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with diverse, non-traditional student populations
- Experience with curriculum development
- Experience managing an administrative budget
- Experience hiring, mentoring, and evaluating personnel and academic faculty at the college level
- Experience with national accreditation
- Experience using technology for pedagogical and administrative duties
- Experience developing and maintaining meaningful relationships with state agencies, the community, professional organizations
- Active engagement in professional educational organizations
- Demonstrated success procuring and managing external grant funding
- Significant experience in P-12 education
