Under the supervision of the Director of Excel Programs, the Excel Pre-Collegiate Coordinator shares pre-collegiate, recruitment, enrollment, and retention responsibilities with other members of the department. The coordinator’s primary responsibilities are to provide supervision, development, implementation, management, and assessment of the Excel Pre-Collegiate Program. The position is also responsible for leading and designing bilingual (English & Spanish) activities, presentations, workshops, and events for high school populations and their parents related to the college process, outreach, and recruitment efforts. In addition the Pre-Collegiate Coordinator will collaborate with the Excel at MSU Denver retention team to develop programming that specifically addresses transition planning, summer melt, and enrollment. The pre-collegiate program at MSU Denver, is focused on serving students that attend select schools in the Adams County district. The objective of the program is to support students through the college going process, support school staff in creating a college going culture, and enhance and encourage parent participation in their student’s education. The Pre-Collegiate Coordinator will work internally with admissions, financial aid, orientation, advising, registrar, students accounts, faculty and other departments to coordinate pre-collegiate related initiatives and to provide student centered service to meet the needs of the students. Externally the Pre-Collegiate coordinator will collaborate with administrative and teaching staff at the schools, and community groups and organizations to ensure student success.
60% – Provide on-site supervision, development, implementation, management, and assessment of the Excel Pre-Collegiate Program. Plans and coordinates visitation events and tours, communicate with students and parents in English/Spanish on a regular basis in-person, telephone, mail, and e-mail to facilitate retention activities and to help resolve student barriers to success. Prepares and delivers bilingual (English & Spanish) college preparation presentations, workshops, activities, and events in Excel Pre-Collegiate high schools and the community to prospective students, parents and other interested groups. Assists with program coordination, with an emphasis on serving diverse, underrepresented students, including students of color; helps train and supervise Excel Pre-Collegiate Counselors, Excel Student Interns, and Excel Student Ambassadors. Collect and analyze data to determine effectiveness of pre-collegiate program/activities and utilization of data in program planning. Develop and maintain various system reports, databases and methods to communicate with and track students. Regularly update department wide website, Facebook, and Twitter pages. Prepare weekly, monthly, and annual program reports. During the academic school year, the majority of the coordinator’s time is spent at the Excel Pre-Collegiate Program high schools. This position frequently travels to an from assigned high schools.
20% Collaborate with the Excel at MSU Denver retention team to develop programming that specifically addresses transition planning, summer melt, and enrollment. Assist with Excel at MSU Denver on-campus and off-campus events when needed. Participate in various departmental, campus and university initiatives related to retention and student success including outreach events.
15%- During the summer the coordinator will be on campus and will assist with the development, implementation, and coordination of summer camp and other events/activities. Provide support to retention team, and plan and prepare for upcoming school year.
5% – Other duties as assigned
Bilingual (English/Spanish)-must have strong bilingual skills, your skills will be tested.
Experience facilitate workshops and presentations in Spanish and English.
Minimum of three years of experience in admissions, counseling, student success, pre-collegiate programs, or other related fields.
Minimum three years of experience working with high school age students
Experience working with a diverse, underrepresented population, including students of color as well as traditional and non-traditional students.
A valid drivers license and personal transportation is required to travel between assigned high schools in Colorado.
Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, social work, human services, or other relevant fields.
Experience with pre-collegiate programs and knowledge in research/best practices in developing college going cultures. Development of pre-collegiate activities and programs that support student success.
Successfully implemented and/or managed pre-collegiate programs at the high school and/or higher education level.
Experience with the Banner Student Information System as well as a Customer Relationship Management System CRM)
