Under the supervision of the Department of Public & Community Health, the advisor will manage the internship activities with students, faculty, and the community, identifying new internships, maintaining relationships with existing internship providers, and mentoring students through their internship experiences. Assists students in the following activities: signing up for credit, assessing personal internship interest, and locating and preparing for internship opportunities. Provides training and resolves problems throughout internship experience. Tracks performance and collects internship supervisor reports and related data. Makes site visits.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree plus two years of experience related to Summary of Duties totaling six years.
Knowledge of current Public Health employment conditions, trends and job placement methods.
Knowledge of laws and university regulations affecting internships.
Knowledge of student development and the ability to help students develop effective academic plans and career and life goals in order to promote student retention and academic success.
Knowledge of student advising and techniques including content, curriculum, and graduation requirements specific to the academic major, department or school, and the ability to anticipate department and student needs.
Knowledge of effective use of social media for both marketing and employer relations.
Understanding of and commitment to UVU’s mission, strategic directions, and communities of engaged learners.
Skilled in computers, computer terminals and academic and office software platforms (BANNER) as applied to management of student records, report preparation, and related activities.
Ability to creatively and independently solve problems by prioritizing and multitasking while under pressure.
Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment.
Ability to serve individuals with diverse personalities through the use of effective interpersonal communication skills using various communication media including telephone, facsimile and email.
