Detailed Job Description

Serve as a clinical staff member of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Provide psychological and counseling services of a preventative and developmental nature to a diverse population of students in individual and group formats. Responsible for crisis intervention; serving in an on-call rotation; and assessing suicidal and homicidal risk. Interview and provide input regarding the selection of clinical trainees. Supervise and instruct all levels of clinical trainees. Provide consultation to parents, administrators, faculty, and staff. May help create and deliver outreach programming to students, student groups, administrators, faculty, and staff.  

Qualifications

A doctorate is required, preferably in counseling or clinical psychology. Must be licensed in Rhode Island or be license-eligible and obtain Rhode Island licensure within 1 year of hire.

Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience, preferably in a college/university counseling center setting. Clinical supervisory experience preferred.

Ability to work with a wide range of student issues in individual and group counseling. Ability to serve students of diverse backgrounds. Ability to manage crisis situations, including suicidality and danger to others. Strong interpersonal skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of the CAPS team. Commitment to one's own ongoing professional development and multicultural competence. Experience working with diverse populations and appreciation for the arts and artists/designers. Commitment to the developmental orientation of CAPS.
