Detailed Job Description

Teaches undergraduate courses in Human Resource Management, particularly in Total Compensation (pay, incentive pay, benefits in great detail in two separate courses) and Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), using experiential education methods and other courses as assigned by the Department Chair. Provides service, including community outreach and SHRM/ICBA/possibly ASTD cooperation to facilitate experiential learning and community engagement, as well as committee work at all levels (department, college, and university).

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with an appropriate degree in a field of study directly related to the summary of duties plus professional experience related to the program or discipline. See preferred qualifications for discipline or program-specific minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a Masters degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field required. Evidence of well-developed, collegial and collaborative communication skills and commitment to service and the pursuit of a research agenda are required.

-Preference will be given to candidates with 5 years of subject-specific (HRIS, Total Compensation) industry experience. Successful candidates should have teaching experience in Human Resource Management content areas. Preference will be given to applicants with a well-developed background (or strong aspirations to develop a teaching record) in experiential education. Experience in online teaching is beneficial.


Infrastructure knowledge with pros and cons of each (on-premise, hosted, cloud, private cloud, etc.).

Knowledge regarding resources in topics such as hiring, retaining, and managing (HRIS) professionals.

Knowledge of establishing research agenda in appropriate academic area, either with an established publication record or possible publication aspirations and ideas.


Skilled in the integration of how to connect systems, why, how to simplify, technology approaches (API, Filebased, Middleware).

Skilled in providing support in software selection (RFI, RFP, demo, evaluation, etc.) in-class cooperation with UVU-external CIO or IT Executives is desired.

Evidence of well-developed, collegial, and collaborative communication skills.


Ability to access, analyze, and use Big Data storage.

Ability to generate, integrate in other HRM courses (especially Total Compensation), and facilitate real-life HRIS student projects aligned with a company (such as SuccessFactors and/or other HRIS providers).

The AACSB-accredited Woodbury School of Business (WSB) at Utah Valley University invites applicants for a one-year Visiting Professional-in-Residence, teaching-focused position in Human Resource Management (HRM). The WSB, averaging over 4,000 students per semester, is one of Utah’s largest schools of business and Utah Valley University is one of the largest colleges at 31,332 students enrolled.
The WSB is currently seeking approval to offer the only undergraduate degree program in HRM in Utah and the greater Intermountain region, with a very strong emphasis in experiential education for all courses taught in the program. The holder of this position will play an important role in the planning and management and the new HR degrees and certificate programs.
