Under the direction of the Dean of the College of Science & Health, oversees quantitative reasoning as a cross-disciplinary general education course. Collaborates with several departments and schools to meet educational needs of liberal arts and humanities majors while fulfilling the quantitative literacy requirements of Utah Valley University. Position is a tenure/tenure-track faculty position open to applicants at the level of assistant-, associate- or full professor.
Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university. Ph.D. preferred in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated knowledge of mathematical applications to the arts, humanities and social sciences.
Knowledge of best practices in learning communities and distance education.
Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques in upper and lower division courses.
Knowledge of student management, motivation, evaluation; evaluation of (peer and self) instruction.
Knowledge of program and curriculum development and evaluation.
Maintain good working relationship with personnel from several departments and disciplines.
Skill in verbal and written communication.
Skill in time management and organizational.
Skill in problem solving.
Ability to collaborate with people of various backgrounds and educational philosophies to promote mathematics among disciplines.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively to find creative approaches to quantitative reasoning education.
