Detailed Job Description

Politics of East Asian Security, On-going Lecturership
The Department of Politics at Bates College invites applications for an on-going lecturer position, subject to renewal in three years, in the Politics of East Asia, with a disciplinary focus on security beginning in Fall 2016.  This lectureship entails teaching four courses (full course load is five courses) each year in addition to advising senior theses, with service requirements and research expectations subject to negotiation. ABD will be considered, Ph.D., preferred. The Politics Department organizes its curriculum by concentrations that highlight broad sets of ideas animating political science, such a governance and conflict, identities and interests, or political economy. Freed from the constraints of traditional subfield divisions, the successful candidate will develop innovative courses, two of which will be cross-listed with the College’s Asian Studies program. The College and the Department of Politics are committed to enhancing the diversity of the campus community and the curriculum. Candidates who can contribute to this goal are especially encouraged to apply, and the search committee expects candidates to identify their strengths and experiences in this area. Those applying should show a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. On-going lecturers at Bates receive a competitive salary and benefits, and they are eligible for resources for research. Review of applications begins October 15 and will continue until the position is filled.

Applicants should submit the following: a letter of application, curriculum vita, writing sample, graduate transcripts, and three letters of recommendation. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
