Research in the MINT Center (a NSF-MRSEC) focusing on magnetic particles and thin film media and heads. Topics include high speed magnetization dynamics, high moment alloys, granular films, tribology, exchange coupled films, GMR materials, particulate dispersions, nanostructures, chemistry and processing nanoparticles, new media chemistry, and wear and corrosion.
The Center for Materials for Information Technology at the University of Alabama has been designated by the National Science Foundation as one of twenty-seven Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers in the U.S. As a result of this and other funding, the Center is seeking qualified post-doctoral fellows to participate in a multi-disciplinary research program focusing on magnetic thin film and particulate materials, spin electronics, and molecular-based information storage. Thirty faculty from seven academic programs including Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mathematics, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, and Physics participate, which provides students a wide range of experimental and theoretical research choices. Focus areas seeking fellows include self-assembled magnetic nanoparticle arrays, high moment alloys, tribology of nanocomposite films, high-speed magnetization dynamics, particulate dispersions, thermal magnetic relaxation, electrochemical deposition techniques, and spin-electronics, including GMR, TMR and magnetic semi-conducting materials. Strong communication skills and a willingness to work in a team environment are critical.
Minimum Qualifications: Requirements include PhD Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mathematics, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, or Physics.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous research in one of the research topic areas would be an important consideration.
