Detailed Job Description

Under the direction of the Head Field Hockey Coach, the Assistant Field Hockey Coach assists the head coach in all areas of running a successful field hockey program.


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 2 years of coaching and/or playing experience, preferably at the collegiate level
  • Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of field hockey
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment, academic eligibility requirements, and retention of student-athletes
  • Knowledge of athletics recruitment methods and techniques
  • Ability to create a database for all prospects, recruiting software database experience preferred
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills that demonstrate an ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record; must be insurable
  • Proficient in computer use and relevant Microsoft applications
  • Available weekends and evenings
  • Ability to pass NCAA recruiting test within 90 days
  • Essential Functions

  • The Assistant Coach recruits, retains, supervises, and coaches student-athletes, under the guidelines of American International College, the Northeast-10 Conference and NCAA
  • Follows all institutional, conference and NCAA rules and regulations to ensure compliance
  • Makes decisions to successfully achieve department goals and objectives, and be accountable for the development of team policies and goals
  • Actively participates in practices and competitions, including, but not limited to, game preparation, practice planning, skill and video sessions, scouting opposing teams and players, scheduling, weight training and fitness programs.
  • Evaluates prospective student-athletes, analyzes and determines their abilities and whether they may succeed athletically and academically at American International College
  • Monitors student-athlete academic performance
  • Advises and counsels student-athletes regarding performance and conduct
  • Identifies and addresses student-athlete welfare issues
  • Represents the College in donor/alumni public relations and community programs.
  • Carry out other related administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics
