Incumbent’s primary focus will be research for the benefit of the Alabama Center for Insurance information & Research (ACIIR). Position holder will conduct, evaluate, disseminate and communicate research findings to diverse audiences. Research to be disseminated via publication in professional and academic journals, conference presentations, other media outlets, and presented to policymakers and for general public consumption. Secondary focus will be to work with Center Director to support the Center’s mission.

The University of Alabama’s Culverhouse College of Commerce invites applications for an Associate Research Professional (coinciding with rank of Assistant Professor) in the Alabama Center for Insurance Information & Research (ACIIR). The ACIIR is affiliated with the Culverhouse College of Commerce and the Department of Economics, Finance, and Legal Studies.
The purpose of ACIIR is to provide highly credible information and research for the benefit of various stakeholders including policymakers, the public, insurance companies, intermediaries, trade groups, and others who need information concerning the management of risk. Center activities focus on the following four areas: 1) Education and outreach; 2) Research and repository of information; 3) Facilitate collaboration among agencies and stakeholders; and 4) Foster leadership and engagement by academic institutions and students.
This is a research position. The Associate Research Professional will focus mainly on ACIIR research activities, but also assist the Director generally. This person should have the knowledge and tools required to engage in and lead Center research, evaluate research submitted by others, and communicate research findings to diverse audiences. He or she will be expected to publish in academic and professional journals, and resources will be available to support these activities. They will also present research at conferences and other venues.
Required Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in insurance, risk, or related discipline (e.g. data science, economics, finance, statistics, etc.), with potential to produce public policy research for publication and distribution to policymakers and the general public.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Conduct and supervise Center research
- Publish research findings in scholarly and professional journals
- Seek external funding for research projects
- Contribute to education and outreach efforts of the Center
- Build and maintain on- and off-campus relationships with researchers
- Assist Director in day-to-day operations of ACIIR, including supervision of students and staff
This is a non-tenure-earning position. Salary is competitive.
