Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Admissions-Transfer Services, the position provides academic planning advice and admissions counseling to prospective and current transfer students. The position provides professional expertise in the transfer function in the development and maintenance of the Transfer Services Office. This position’s primary responsibilities are to provide customer service, transfer admissions counseling, transcript evaluations assistance, and academic planning advice to prospective and current MSU Denver transfer students. The counselor maintains a regular visitation schedule at Denver area community colleges and establishes positive working relationships with academic advising staff at those colleges. The position also visits community colleges outside of the Denver area and in other states. The position supports the enrollment function by providing the technical transfer articulation portion of Transfer Orientation and assists accepted transfer students with completing the enrollment process. The transfer counselor participates in group and individual presentations both on and off campus and regularly follows up with students via phone and email.
50% – Provides transfer admissions counseling and academic planning to prospective transfer students and refers students to Academic Advising and/or appropriate major department. Establishes strong working relationships with academic advising and academic departments in order to successfully develop and execute transfer articulation agreements with a variety of educational institutions. Advises prospective transfer students about admission procedures, transfer of credit, course equivalency, university policies, the financial aid process, scholarships, program requirements, registration, tuition classification, and available student support services. Facilitates application, transcript evaluation, and admission of transfer students by working closely with a variety of MSU Denver academic departments. Assists transfer students with resolution of transfer related issues. Provides online academic planning and transfer advice to students using the firstname.lastname@example.org email address.
30% – Represents MSU Denver at Colorado Community colleges, various vocational-technical schools, career education fairs, and advising workshops as they relate to the recruitment effort. Maintains a regular visitation schedule for recruitment and advising purposes at Colorado community colleges as well as visits community colleges in other states. Assists in the planning and coordination of outreach and communication for targeted transfer students and of special on and off-campus recruitment-related events (use of email, phone and Customer Relationship Management system). Maintains close contact and coordination with a variety of MSU Denver student enrollment services to facilitate enrollment of transfer students.
10% – Prepares and makes individual and group presentations to prospective transfer students regarding the admissions/application and transfer credit process.
5% – Assists in the design and production of Transfer Services Office communications, such as emails, letters, newsletters, publications, etc.
5% – Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year of full-time experience working in admissions or advising in a higher education setting.
Experience using a Student Information System database and a Customer Relationship Management (CRM)System.
At least Two years of experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
Experience with a student information system, CRM system as well as the Microsoft Office suite.
Experience providing presentations to groups.
This position requires frequent travel for recruiting activities and therefore a valid driver’s license is a must.
Master’s degree in higher education, counseling or related field.
A minimum of two years of full-time experience working in admissions or advising in a higher education setting.
Experience assisting transfer students in degree planning.
General knowledge of transfer coursework and agreements.
Knowledge of strategic enrollment management.
Experience with Banner and Recruiter CRM system.
Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
