The Department of Social Work has several grants that promote and serve MSU Denver students and the community. The Department of Social Work Grants Assistant’s primary responsibility is to support the administration of grants in the Department of Social Work by providing administrative assistance to grant principal investigators and the administrative side of the Department of Social Work. This position may be asked to provide support across several grants in the Department or be assigned to one grant and must be a team player, willing to collaborate with departmental personnel as a whole, to support the goals and initiatives of the Department as a whole. Assignments may change to fit Departmental need. The Department of Social Work is a rapidly growing academic program consisting of undergraduate and graduate education, grants programs, an Office of Social Work Student Services and an Office of Field Education. The Department of Social Work Grants assistant must be flexible, self-motivated, customer service oriented, able to effectively handle multiple priorities and deadlines, and detailed –oriented with strong follow-up skills to be an effective professional in this position. The Department of Social Work Grants Assistant must embody integrity and professionalism to serve as a colleague in a developing and evolving team.
90% Administrative Support
30% This position will provide general administrative assistance consisting of duties such as:
•proofreading and editing
•coordinating the administrative aspects of grant activities
•organizing and compiling grant materials and updating/creating grant related materials.
30% Other administrative tasks include event/meeting planning activities such as:
•setting up grant related meetings
•coordinating room set up
30% The position will provide general accounting and purchasing support such as:
•tracking grant expenses/bookkeeping and processing accounting and purchasing paperwork
•processing payroll and/or personnel paperwork for grant expenses and activities.
10% Other Duties as Assigned
•At least 1 year experience of bookkeeping, purchasing and/or basic accounting skills
•At least two years of experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
•Experience providing customer service.
•Experience providing administrative support in an office setting
•Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience in an administrative support setting ( If you plan to use the equivalence option to establish qualified status please note: one year of education is equal to two years of experience).
•Experience using Banner Financial system or similar database financial system.
•Strong problem solving skills and critical thinking skills with an ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
•Must have excellent organization and time management skills
•Detail-oriented with strong follow up skills.
•Basic knowledge of grants and grant funding is a plus.
•The successful candidate must work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population.
