Assistant or Associate Professor in Economic Development (tenure-track)
Cleveland State University is searching for active, culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber.
Position Description: The Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of economic development planning or policy. We seek someone with the potential or ability to contribute to our national ranking in urban policy/city management and to support the university’s mission of engaged learning. The successful candidate will enhance the existing strengths of our academic programs and applied research incorporating urban planning, public administration, and/or economic development. The candidate will teach primarily in our Master of Urban Planning and Development, Master of Public Administration and Master of Science in Urban Studies degrees and will contribute to our specializations in Economic Development. There is also an expectation that the candidate will teach in our new Bachelor of Economic Development degree program and other undergraduate offerings. Opportunities to work with doctoral students also exist.
The hiring for this position is contingent on maintaining existing levels of funding from the state of Ohio.
Offer of employment is contingent on satisfactory completion of the University’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or University policies or practices, including but not limited to criminal background check. The start date is August 2016.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in urban or regional planning, public administration, public policy, urban studies, economics, political science, geography, finance related to urban economic development, or a related field. ABD candidates must complete all requirements for the Ph.D. by July 1, 2016. Candidates must have the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in planning, economic development, urban policy and urban studies. Candidates must have a research record with demonstrated expertise in economic development.
Preferred Qualifications: Teaching and research expertise in economic development planning and policy, with interest in one or more of the following areas: workforce, anti-poverty policy, industry organization, sustainable development and/or the practice of economic development. Demonstrated ability in raising external funding and interest in working with the College’s applied research centers, especially the Center for Economic Development and the Center for Community Planning and Development, is desired at the Assistant Professor level, and expected at the Associate level. The ability to advance understanding and familiarity with issues related to economic development in evolving market climates and in slow-growth metropolitan areas, such as Cleveland; experience with on-line teaching; and interest in working with Ph.D. students is also desirable, especially at the Associate Professor level. The ability to contribute through research/scholarship, teaching, and/or service to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence of the Levin College.
