Detailed Job Description

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Accounting as assigned using effective pedagogies. Instruction may include in-class, online, and hybrid methods of delivery. Willingly accept assignments and serve on department, school, and university committees. Support the department’s goals and work collaboratively with colleagues in the department, school, and university.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an appropriate degree in a related field to the coursework being taught. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. See preferred qualifications for discipline or program-specific minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates must have graduated from an accredited institution with a Master of Accountancy.
Must have experience in accounting practice including accounting information systems.
Recent teaching experience and current professional certifications(s) appropriate to the candidate’s areas of teaching is preferred.


Knowledge and understanding of accounting principles, accounting information systems. Currency may be demonstrated through recent formal education, professional certifications, appropriate level of recent professional practice, continuing professional education, and/or verification of successful teaching.


Skills include instructing students effectively, grading students fairly based on their demonstrated competence and maintaining order in the classroom.


Abilities necessary for this position include effective oral and written communication, class management at the college level, teaching using traditional in-class methods, teaching online, and use of current teaching techniques. Candidates are expected to be able to perform all the normal functions of teaching in a current college environment. The ability to teach courses online and to use online teaching materials and teaching aids is important.

The Department of Accounting in the Woodbury School of Business has a one-year lecturer position open for the 2015-2106 academic year. The primary areas of need are accounting information systems and managerial accounting. Additional course assignments will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and the department’s needs.

The Department of Accounting awards approximately 130 baccalaureate degrees each year. The Woodbury School of Business is AACSB accredited. Utah Valley University (UVU) is a comprehensive institution with approximately 31,000 students. The university offers a wide range of baccalaureate degrees and come master’s degrees, including an MBA.
