Detailed Job Description

The Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for managing all aspects of communication with students. The Financial Aid Counselor must ensure excellence in customer service, while also ensuring that the management of funds is compliant with Federal and State regulations, as well as institutional policy.


  • Financial Aid Processing
    • Coordinate document tracking to collect all necessary documentation for student financial aid files
    • Verify all student files and perform needs analysis calculation to determine eligibility
    • Originate federal loans, monitor their disbursement, and reconcile account each month
    • Certify private educational loans
    • Monitor and track federal work study funds
    • Track SAP for recipients of Title IV aid
    • Track entrance and exit counseling
    • Other administrative tasks as assigned
  • Counseling
    • First point of contact for students with questions pertaining to financial aid
    • Facilitate debt management workshops
    • Inform students of Stafford and Graduate PLUS loan programs, scholarships and other forms of financial assistance
    • Serve as the Certifying Official to recipients of Veteran Educational Benefits to eligible recipients
    • Assist Admissions with recruitment efforts by facilitating informational sessions to prospective students


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills required
  • 3-5 years of financial aid experience preferred
  • Experience with Ellucian Colleague preferred
  • Working knowledge of Federal Title IV regulations preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills required
  • Excellent written communication required
  • Attention to detail required
