The Office of First Year Experience (FYE) Retention Advisors will assist our diverse body of students with attaining their educational and academic goals by consistently providing timely and accurate service, support, and guidance. These positions report to the Assistant VP of Enrollment Management. The student populations served may include new and returning undergraduate students, although will be limited to first year students in 2013-2014 academic year. The Advisors will, in collaboration with other Saint Leo advising resources, design and implement proactive student retention campaigns, develop strong resource relationships with assigned students, focus on problem solving, resource development and retention of Saint Leo campus-based students. The position is open; it is a 10-month position.
The Office of First Year Experience (FYE) Retention Advisors are primarily responsible for coordinating resources and assisting undergraduate students in developing resources to ensure persistence at the University.
1) Two advisors provide advising and support outreach to 100% of incoming first year students (approx. 325 each) on a prioritized and continual basis; 10 month position, University campus based.
2) Advisors implement this strategic retention initiative:
• Identify and monitor students at risk.
• Develop, coordinate and implement face to face, email and telephone meetings and campaigns to maintain contact, provide calls to action for students throughout course of academic year.
• Collaborate and partner with other university professionals including academic and professional advising, counseling and learning resource center teams, faculty, financial aid, admission teams, first year experience, student affairs, and athletics advisors to coordinate services and outreach.
• Collaborate with executive administration, deans, department chairs and directors, faculty, and other campus leaders to ensure timely quality services and programs to address student success, retention, and completion.
• Stay informed regarding academic, advising, financial aid schedules and deadlines to ensure timely communication and support for assigned students.
• Receive and respond to incoming calls and emails in a timely manner.
• Accurately document interactions and contacts in CRM.
• Support the learning of students through intrusive advising strategies to include preparing students to successfully complete the full first year of college.
• Confer with faculty and administrators, and other professionals to discuss students’ progress; resolve behavioral, academic and other issues; and determine priorities and resources for assigned students.
• Develop strategies and plans for academic recovery for student experiencing academic difficulty through communication with faculty, advisors, and students.
• Plan and lead interactive activities with assigned students and other campus staff on and off campus to ensure engagement, relationship and community building, development of persistence and resilience.
• One to two years of advising experience, preferably with first-generation, at-risk, and/or academically challenged students.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Excellent writing skills and intermediate to advanced computer literacy skills required.
• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Candidates must be flexible, positive and highly motivated to help others succeed. Attentive and able to multi-task in a fast-paced team environment.
• CRM (Customer Relationship Management – Salesforce and SIS (Student Information System – Datatel) desirable. Ease with learning new systems required. MS Office including Excel required.
• 70-80% of contact with assigned students will be by phone and email, requiring significant volume of both outgoing calls and emails daily. Additional time for extensive face-to-face interaction with students.
• Some evenings and weekends required.
Master’s Degree Preferred: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Masters of Educational Leadership, Education, Public Policy, Business, Behavioral/Science, Educational Psychology, Social Work or other related field.
