Detailed Job Description

The Foreign Language Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish appointment to begin August 2013. Area of specialization is open; courses in the successful candidate’s area will enrich the Spanish major, but the majority teaching will be in language courses (from Elementary to Advanced) that contribute to the college’s Cornerstone Program of General Education.

The annual teaching load is 3 courses per semester (6 per year) and candidates should give evidence of commitment to and success in undergraduate teaching, as well as evidence of scholarly activity. The successful candidate will have PhD in hand by May 15, 2013. Salary will be competitive and the position includes faculty development funds for the support of research and professional travel.

Deadline for submitting applications is October 15, 2012. Application documents will include: letter of application, curriculum vitae, sample teaching evaluations, a brief statement of teaching philosophy, writing sample and three letters of recommendation, at least one of which speaks to teaching ability.
