The Department of Hospitality, Tourism, and Events has an opening for a beverage program Lab Coordinator II, whose primary responsibility will be the support of courses and laboratory activities related to brewing operations and brewpub management. Additional responsibilities will include assistance with other beverage course laboratory and purchasing as needed.
This position is currently only funded through June 30th, 2016.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Selection, Procurement, Storage and Distribution of Beverage Lab Supplies: Receives supplies from vendors and stocks supplies in storage facilities requiring frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs.; Position may drive to vendors facilities to pick up supplies; Coordinates with faculty to establish beverage and supply needs; Reviews recipes and production methods with faculty to determine quantities, quality levels, and costs of laboratory supplies; Communicates supply orders with vendors in the procurement of laboratory supplies; Directs the receipt, storage and distribution of laboratory supplies.
Overseeing Laboratory Facilities:
Decides procedures, specifically in agreement with State and Federal safety and sanitation regulations regarding inspections of the operating condition of the laboratory space, equipment, and storage facilities; Conducts a review of the operating condition of the laboratory space, operating condition of equipment, temperature levels of storage facilities, and the general health and safety conditions of the laboratory facilities; Establishes preventative maintenance schedules for laboratory equipment and general facilities and directs corrective actions as needed; Monitors scheduling of undergraduate and continuing education classes of the laboratory facilities.
Budgeting and Record Keeping:
(Negotiates contracts with vendors and service companies; Verifies supply invoices are correct at the time of delivery; Verifies repair and maintenance service invoices are correct; Approves payment of invoices; Post, with accuracy, invoice transactions to excel journal and ledger accounts; Keeps up-to-date, running balances of journal and ledger accounts; Advises faculty and supervisor of budget constraints.
Collaborating with Faculty:
Advises faculty on supply requirements for multiple laboratory classes; Advises and trains full and part-time faculty relating to various operating procedures of equipment and laboratory space; collaborates with faculty in maximum usage of laboratory facilities; Assist faculty during and after laboratory operating hours in the monitoring of student activities; Teach laboratory classes as needed.
•3 years of work experience.
•Experience with fermentation processes.
•Experience working in a lab environment including wort production.
•Experience conducting budget management, purchasing and negotiating with vendors.
•This position requires frequent lifting and therefore qualified applicants must be able to lift 50 pounds.
•BS or MS degree in a related field.
•A minimum of 6 years of work experience in a professional brewery
•Experience in pilot and large volume brewing, fermentation, and packaging equipment.
•International Brewing and Distilling credentials/certification.
