Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), located in historic Providence, RI, is seeking a Director of Human Resources - Labor Relations to serve as a key member of the College's labor relations teams by providing leadership in developing, achieving and maintaining a high level of support and service in labor relations in collaboration with senior leadership, managers and Human Resources.
Reporting to the VP of Human Resources, the Director represents the College as the central point of contact for collective bargaining for nine (9) union contracts covering over 500 college employees. The Director offers guidance and ongoing education, best practices, and assurance of consistency in support of positive outcomes for employees, managers, and the institution; assists managers with the interpretation of contracts and policies, and mediating with employees and union representatives; coordinates the preparation and planning of negotiations, the review and analysis of contracts, and the development of proposals aligned to the strategic goals of the institution. The ideal candidate will serve as a role model to others by using diplomacy and tact, solving complex and sensitive problems collaboratively. The Director is responsible for grievance oversight, case preparation, representing RISD in employment law matters and/or engaging RISD's general counsel and external counsel as appropriate.
