Detailed Job Description

The Associate Director for Executive Education + Professional Studies establishes, recommends and implements, as approved, a strategic vision for growth and development of executive education programming and RISD|CE adult certificate programs. The Associate Director is responsible for driving the creation, development, and execution of a diverse Executive Education program for RISD that will provide senior executives in the private, public, education and nonprofit sectors access to world-class teaching and cutting-edge knowledge.

Predicated in educational innovation and driven to engaging new and diverse markets advances, enhances, and expands the reach and impact of RISD|CE. The individual will assess these ideas via formal and informal market research, focus groups, surveys and community outreach to meet the needs of a wide range of constituencies.

Additionally, the Associate Director plans, coordinates, monitors, evaluates and supervises all aspects of adult certificate courses and programs to ensure that curriculum standards and best practices of educational delivery are maintained and that all courses/programs run smoothly. The individual approves of all related course offerings and decisions regarding faculty hires/rehires; analyzes tuitions, competition, and program expenses; suggests marketing initiatives; and supports and supervises a staff, including Certificate Program Advisors.

The Associate Director for Executive Education + Professional Studies will work on special assignments for and with the Executive Director.  


MA/MFA preferred in art and design, art education, arts management or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Five-seven years previous experience coordinating and/or managing education programs and/or program development/implementation, with at least 3 years supervising, leading, mentoring, or guiding other.

Proven leadership experience developing and translating a strategic vision into reality in an educational or corporate environment and demonstrated ability to deliver comprehensive, cutting edge, innovative programming.

Knowledge and understanding of educational markets and trends in an effort to determine viability of programs.

Evidence of the ability to work effectively with ethnically and culturally diverse communities.

Ability to identify and steward business development relationships which result in high impact outcomes.
