With specific direction, installs and maintains hardware and operating systems for servers and related components. Installs and maintains business applications running on the systems. Enforces procedures and solve technical issues to ensure availability, reliability, stability, and scalability of systems. Provides advanced support on technical and functional issues for IT Systems. This includes general maintenance, security and vendor-supplied updates, basic administration, Ad Hoc reporting, and execution of processes and procedures for ongoing management of the systems environment. The Systems Specialist will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of assigned systems and their integration with other institutional systems and business processes.
This is a Career Ladder position and will be placed at one of the following levels depending on qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate’s degree in Information Technology or related field plus one year of related experience. Prefer at least six months experience related to the administration and maintenance of enterprise-level IT systems or any combination of education and experience totaling three years.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or equivalent education and experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling four years.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology and one year of experience administering and maintaining enterprise-level IT systems or equivalent education and experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling five years.
Knowledge of at least two of the following: Linux, MySQL, Oracle, Apache, XML, Mac OS, Window OS, NOS, and Cisco IOS.
Knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN or NAS.
Knowledge of eDirectory, Active Directory, and LDAP directories.
Knowledge of load balancing, clustering, and cashing procedure and processes.
Knowledge of Database and Database language such as SQL, PL/SQL, MySQL, SQL Server, and MS Access.
Skilled in customer service, interpersonal, verbal, and written communications.
Ability to work in a customer service, team-oriented, collaborative environment, highly self motivated with the ability to learn quickly.
Ability to learn TCP/IP and application network protocols, firewall management, operating system configuration, anti-virus software, relational database(s).
Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems and researching technical issues.
Ability to maintain systems hardware including Core, Distribution, and Edge Switches.
