The Web Content Accessibility Specialist supports improved accessibility of institutional websites through identification and remediation of accessibility issues, contributing to the development of proactive means of testing accessibility, being an advocate for accessibility to key stakeholders, and by helping develop appropriate training and policies.


1.  Conduct comprehensive accessibility analysis of Web pages and assets, including equipment

2.  Perform visual accessibility analysis to identify potential barriers and violations.

3.  Prepare detailed reports documenting identified violations and suggesting potential solutions.

4.  Interface with key stakeholders from various quarters to explain Web accessibility barriers and potential solutions in everyday language.

5.  Contribute to efforts to create policy in the area of providing mandated web accessible campus resources.

6.  Serve as a resource to faculty and staff in the use and suitability of web technology solutions for individuals with disabilities.

7.  Facilitate individual and group training for faculty and staff in the areas of adaptive technology for the web.

8.  Suggest testable solutions designed to integrate with a dynamic code base. 

9.  Conduct comprehensive accessibility testing against the WCAG 2.0.

10. Provide expertise in accessible technology for campus, web related, technology projects.

11. Stay abreast of legislation and national, state, and local issues affecting access for students with disabilities and ensure campus compliance to include Section 504, WCAG 2.0, ATAG 2.0, UAAG 1.0, WAI-ARIA, and MathML, WCAG21CT, DAISY Standard and EPUB3.

12. Maintain currency of new web access technology guidelines and laws relating to individuals with disabilities, alternate media, distance education and electronic information.

13. Actively promote a customer-oriented approach throughout IT Services.

14. Participate in professional development activities.

15. May teach an approved one credit hour course per semester on an as needed basis and with division approval.

16. Perform related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, earned by date of hire.
  • 2-3 years of experience providing adaptive technology interventions to solve web technology access issues with a broad array of disability populations, preference for higher education environment.

Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience providing the knowledge/skills/abilities listed above may be substituted. Experience in these knowledge/skills/abilities may be earned concurrently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer and Information Systems, Business Systems or other similar related area of study, earned by date of hire.
  • Demonstrated experience with Web accessibility analysis, testing, design and development.
  • Working knowledge of US ADA Section 504 and Standards published by the World Wide Web Consortium such as WCAG 2.0, ATAG 2.0, UAAG 1.0, WAI-ARIA, and MathML, DAISY Standard and EPUB3
  • Working knowledge of accessibility barriers to the Web.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, in a team, and with or without direction.
  • Facilitate compliance of the university website, online courses, and adaptive technology and alternate media services within the mandates of the ADA, Section 504 and their applicable regulations.
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities.
  • Accessibility certifications through organizations such as IAAP (International Association of Accessibility Professionals).
