The Office of Instruction is seeking a talented individual to fill the position of Research Technician.
Mission College is located in the heart of Silicon Valley. Our staff and faculty are among the most qualified in the state and our students appreciate the college for its friendly staff and supportive atmosphere.
Under the direction of the VP of Office of Instruction, independently performs a wide variety of technical support tasks and projects utilizing specialized software to support student learning outcome tracking documentation and other college programs and services.

100% of full time, 37.5 hours per week, 12 months per year, with anticipated start date of August 19, 2015. Schedule may change to include some evening or weekend hours, as needed. This position is a member of the West Valley-Mission Classified Employees Association (WVMCEA ), Office, Technical & Business Services Employee Unit.
Work Location: Mission College, Santa Clara, CA.
PLEASE NOTE :
We have begun a district-wide classification study of all regular, non-faculty staff positions. A classification study is a process of studying, analyzing, and describing the nature and level of work performed by employees. This classification study will ultimately produce uniform job descriptions for every employee.
The classification study will also include a compensation study that will provide information on what other employers pay employees who are performing similar duties. The District will use this information to ensure that our employees are adequately compensated.
The classification study started in November 2014 and is expected to take approximately 9-12 months to complete. As a result of this study, it is possible for the job description and/or compensation to change in this position opening.
Salary and Benefits:
• Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,328–$4,730 monthly (WVMCEA Salary Schedule, Range 61, Steps A-C).

1. Education – Completion of two years of college coursework in computer science, mathematics, statistics, business, economics or a related field;
2. Experience – Two years of experience in the use of current reporting software in an institutional research or similar environment;
3. Demonstrated ability to effectively work with persons of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

• Performs basic statistical and qualitative analysis and produces reports in a variety of formats, including written, tabular, graphic and/or pictorial form.
• Assists with the development of research designs, including surveys and other data collection and query processes
• Performs data entry using database and spreadsheet applications and software.
• Maintains and monitors Research Office data files and databases.
• Assists in defining, analyzing, planning and implementing solutions to improve operational efficiencies related to research.
• Reviews assigned reports and provides written summaries.
• Develops and/or maintains selected intranet and internet web pages.
• Assists with environmental scanning activities, including the monitoring of regional labor market projections.
• Provides regular status reports for on-going projects and committee activities.
• Collects and configures relevant data to support all aspects of planning and decision-making processes using a variety of means, including conducting database queries, extracting data from central databases, and transferring data to other applications, such as Excel, for analysis.
• Assists with matriculation research, such as instrument and prerequisite validation, and other matriculation compliance activities.
• Provides assessment and evaluation support for accountability measures, including local, state and federal reporting requirements, and for specific intervention strategies employed to improve student success, such as student learning outcomes, retention, and persistence.
• Assists in the development of the research agenda to support the institution’s planning processes.
• Provides research support for planning processes and institutional effectiveness measures, such as program review, matriculation, accreditation, student and staff equity, basic skills, grant proposals and evaluations, assessment, enrollment management, recruitment,
outreach, marketing, and educational and facilities master planning.
• Assists with training college staff in the use of new reporting systems and the use of information.
• Provides limited technical support and training for new or existing information dissemination systems.
• Coordinates research efforts with personnel from other offices, colleges, and the district.
• Evaluates, prioritizes, and responds to internal and external research requests.
• Composes correspondence, generates reports, files and maintains records.
• Performs related duties as required/assigned.
