Founded in 1863, Saint Mary's is a residential campus nestled 20 miles east of San Francisco in the picturesque Moraga Valley. Based in the Catholic, Lasallian and liberal arts traditions, Saint Mary's currently enrolls more than 4,000 students from diverse backgrounds in undergraduate and graduate programs. The Single Subject Program credentials secondary teachers of English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education, Art, and Music.  Core courses include general & subject area methods, social, psychological, and cultural foundations, special needs learners, English Learners, and literacy.  The department offers an M.A.T. in Education.  The mission of the program is to prepare teachers to be competent practitioners and agents for positive personal and social change. 
In addition to teaching courses in the candidate’s area of specialization, the successful candidate is expected to teach core courses in the Single Subject Program.  There also is the opportunity to teach in the College’s undergraduate Collegiate Seminar (“Great Books”) Program and during January Term.  All faculty are expected to engage in scholarly activity, advise students, assist with program development, and provide service to College and unit-level committees.  The successful candidate also is expected to contribute to the mission of the College and support its Catholic tradition, Lasallian principles and commitment to the Liberal Arts.


Experience and Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications
·       Background in Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies teaching methods.
·       Innovative public secondary school teaching experience in schools that serve diverse, high poverty student populations.
·       Experience teaching EL and Special Educations students in general education classrooms.
·       A record of scholarship in an appropriate field.
Required Qualifications
  • Candidates must hold a Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent degree in Education or related field.
  • A record of teaching excellence at the secondary level (at least three years).
  • Evidence of a scholarly research trajectory.
  • Candidates must have a strong commitment to student-centered teaching and research, a strong methods background, and a demonstrated ability to teach, advise, and mentor candidates who will teach in diverse educational and cultural contexts.
