Detailed Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Research Scientist or other appropriate personnel, the Research Technician will use fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a particular field of specialization to perform varied scientific research tasks of moderate complexity requiring application and adaptation of established techniques, procedures, and criteria.The technician will also aid the PI and student researchers in all aspects of the project as deemed appropriate by the PI.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree or higher in a discipline related to the position. One (1) year of relevant experience. Basic computer skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student oriented research experience will be considered. Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Experience working with molecular genetic techniques is required. Must be willing to make a two-year commitment to the job. The person hired must be willing to work occasionally at night and on weekends, depending on the demands of the experiments.

Skills and Knowledge:

The technician will work in a bacteriology lab assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) in a 2-year NIH funded project to understand regulatory mechanisms of the bacterial immune system CRISPR-Cas in staphylococci. Responsibilities will include: ordering supplies, inventory of chemicals and samples, genetic manipulation of staphylococci, standard nucleic acid methods (such as PCR, DNA, and RNA extraction), molecular biology assays involving work with radioactive isotope (such as northern blotting and primer extension), and genomic data analysis. The technician will also aid the PI and student researchers in all aspects of the project as deemed appropriate by the PI. Additional information about the research lab can be found at

Preferred Qualifications:

MSc Preferred. Two (2) or more years of biological research experience preferred. Some experience with bacterial genetics and molecular biology assays preferred. 55 Monthly (exempt): - Minimum - $ 25833.60 Midpoint - $ 34444.80
