Detailed Job Description

Under the direction of the Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs and the Assistant Athletic Director for Development, the Director-Wolverine Club/Special Events cultivates and solicits annual philanthropic/business-related gifts, administers fundraising initiatives including Wolverine Club/Annual Fund and other events, directs the department’s on-campus merchandise initiatives, promotes athletic events, manages season-ticket sales, and coordinates VIP seating and Presidents Athletic Circle events at games. Directs all affairs relating to major events in the athletic department and secures sponsorship funding for events. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline plus three years of staff level experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling seven years.


Knowledge of technical writing, philanthropic gift solicitation, revenue generation, marketing and branding practices, budgeting and fiscal management. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Knowledge of market research and sales forecasting principles and methodologies. Comprehensive knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, and methodologies.


Developing, fundraising, advertising, marketing/promotions and strategic planning, computer and computer applications including development software. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Skill in organizing resources, analyzing and solving problems, establishing priorities, and making evaluative judgments.


Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures. To budget, set financial policies, develop contractual agreements, work with the people in public relations settings, build relationships with many diverse constituencies, problem solve in as fast paced environment. Develop and implement comprehensive branding goals, strategies, and plans. Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to develop and manage sales and operating budgets. Ability to compile and analyze statistical data, draw inferences, and prepare strategic and operational reports and recommendations. Advanced direct sales skills. Ability to foster a cooperative environment and to work in a collegial fashion with peers in other organizational units.

Pay Range

$39,889 to $53,186
