The Director of Donor Programs and Stewardship will create, implement, manage and assess a comprehensive set of cultivation and stewardship activities to assist College Advancement reach its strategic objectives. Leading a team of two staff members, the Director reports to the Assistant Vice President for College Advancement and will work closely with the Leadership and Planned Giving teams and the Vice President for College Advancement to help strengthen the relationships and involvement between leading families and the college.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provide strategic oversight of donor relations, stewardship, special events and related activities aimed at leadership and principal gift families.
Enhance the positive relations between Bates and principal and leadership gift donors; partner with gift officers to determine strategies for effective recognition and stewardship of these donors and assist in coordinating individual stewardship plans for leading donors.
Ensure donors are acknowledged and recognized in a timely, personalized manner.
Partner with the Associate Director of Principal gifts to develop, plan and manage implementation and analysis of events, including high-end cultivation and stewardship gatherings, groundbreaking and building dedication ceremonies, endowed professorship lectures, concerts, activities for donor societies and other events as needed.
Recommend and facilitate on- and off-campus publicity of major gifts; collaborate with Bates Communications Office.
Participate in planning and execution of campaign-related kick-off and celebration events as needed.
Work closely with Advancement colleagues and campus partners to report to donors on the impact of their gifts through the Report of Giving, annual endowed fund reports and other pieces as needed.
Stay current on stewardship best practices and make recommendations for improving processes at the college.
Manage and coordinate the activities of two staff members in the department.
Manage the Donor Programs departmental budget in alignment with the department’s strategic goals.
Five years of experience in fundraising preferred.
Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately in written and oral communications. Excellent writing skills are essential.
Experience in fundraising and/or working with volunteers preferred. Must be creative and have excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills.
Must understand the importance of building life-long relationships between the college and its alumni, parents and friends. An understanding of prospect management strongly preferred.
Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines and with excellent attention to details and accuracy.
A self-starter who takes initiative will be successful in this position. Must have the ability to work well with diverse constituencies.
Experience with event management preferred.
The ideal candidate will possess a B.A. degree, and a significant number of years professional experience in a service oriented capacity in higher education or equivalent experience. A good understanding and working knowledge of database systems, business office software, and reporting software is required.
