The Department of Consumer Sciences at the University of Alabama is seeking dynamic applicants for an Assistant Professor tenure track position. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching graduate courses in sport management, establish a record of scholarly publications and external funding, and become involved in department leadership duties. Preference will be given to a candidate with evidence of effective and innovative college-level teaching. The department offers a master’s degree in General Studies with concentrations in Sport Management. In addition, the department also houses graduate specialty program in interactive technology, a master’s degree in Consumer Sciences with either a focus in consumer economics or family financial planning and counseling, and bachelor’s degree in Consumer Sciences with concentrations in consumer affairs and family financial planning and counseling. These specializations are not part of the expectations of this position.


Teaching, research, and service activities to articulate with the mission of the university.
Produce a record of scholarly activity in sport management, athletic administration, and/or sport industry journals.
Recruit, mentor, and advise graduate students both on campus and online.
Develop and update online (blended/hybrid) courses as needed.
Obtain external funding to support a nationally competitive research program.
Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.

Additional Position Information

Qualifications:
Completed doctoral degree in sport management, sport marketing, athletic administration, or a closely related field.
Strong writing and publication skills.
Professional experience of four (4) years working full-time in the sports industry.
Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
Established research agenda with publication record appropriate for position rank.
Evidence of involvement with relevant professional organizations. Review of applications will begin February 15, 2015.
