Job Responsibilities


• Leads, supervises, trains and evaluates the work of campus SFA advisors and other full-time and part-time staff as assigned in accordance with College policies, collective bargaining contracts and labor laws

• Participates in the development of College SFA policies and procedures and ensures a uniform execution at the campus

• Participates in the establishment of positive controls and procedures that ensure financial aid funds are disbursed to students promptly and in the correct amount

• Ensures compliance of financial aid recipients with the SFA academic standards as required by federal regulations including, but not limited to, satisfactory grades, attendance, class selections, and progress

• Maintains up-to-date knowledge base on student financial aid laws and regulations to various constituents, staying abreast of and assimilating frequent changes, and implementing revised procedures as required

• Maintains communication with all campus student affairs units and Office of the Bursar and Enrollment Centers

• Coordinates all campus SFA activities with other College SFA units to assure that information exchanges and transactions occur in a timely and consistent manner

• Works cooperatively and collaboratively with other college units charged with student postsecondary transition, retention and outreach activities

• Serves on campus and college wide committees as assigned

• Develops, administers, and monitors campus department budget

• Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications


• Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration or a related field and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in a Financial Aid department

• Demonstrated experience hiring, training, developing, scheduling, supervising and managing the work performance of others

• Demonstrated experience forecasting, planning, maintaining, preparing, and monitoring a business area’s budget

• Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have major implications on the management and operations within a department

• Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem solving methods in adaptive situations


• Possesses comprehensive knowledge of Federal Financial Aid theories, concepts and practices with the ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations as it pertains to the departmental focus

• Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently

• Possesses excellent attention to detail, strong decision-making skills and an ability to work independently

• Possesses excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills

• Ability to interpret and implement complex Federal Title IV and State regulations related to financial aid

• Ability to research and analyze issues and develop solutions

• Possesses skill in interpreting and applying rules and regulations to a variety of individual student situations and circumstances

• Ability to understand how automated financial aid systems affect individual student records

• Proven ability to work in a fast paced, high volume and confidential service environment

• Ability to work as a member of a student-oriented Administrative team

• Ability to work in cross functional quality teams, including the ability to work comfortable with numerous constituents at the campus and district level

• Excellent student customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships

• Ability to be creative and exercise initiative

• Demonstrated basic project management skills

• Demonstrated intermediate Banner System skills (or equivalent program)

• Possesses basic-level proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Access

• Possesses intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

• Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity

• Ability to collaborate, persuade and gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects

• Ability to collaborate, negotiate and resolve conflicts on major projects

• Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality

Normal work hours Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.
