Detailed Job Description

The Human Subjects Protection Program Coordinator will assist in ensuring the smooth operation of the Human Subjects Protection Program which houses the Institutional Review Board. The Human Subjects Protection Program involves ongoing development of awareness about human subjects research policies and procedures, training for faculty and staff conducting human subjects research and the review of proposals by the Institutional Review Board. The Coordinator communicates with campus constituents about the Human Subjects Protection Program, supports the Institutional Review Board and its Chair by managing documents and organizing meetings. The Human Subjects Protection Program Coordinator is supervised by the Associate Vice President of Curriculum and Academic Effectiveness.  
40% - Coordinate communication with Students/Staff/Faculty
1. As the first point of contact for the Human Subjects Protection Program (HSPP), the coordinator is responsible for greeting and interacting with individuals in a friendly, positive manner whether in person, on the phone or through email. 2. Analyzes problems and instructs students, faculty and other staff regarding University and IRB procedures. Identifies, defines, and solves problems, making appropriate referrals as necessary. 3. Serves as liaison between HSPP and other University departments, notifying them of pertinent information and events as requested. 4. Coordinates concerns received from investigators, research participants, and other stakeholders, and follows through with Institutional Review Board (IRB) Chair and committee in resolving concerns.

40% - Administrative and Institutional Review Board support
1. Coordinates and schedules all events for the Institutional Review Board, including monthly meetings and office appointments for researchers with the IRB Chair. 2. Updates and maintains HSPP records system, including online and shared network drive document management. 3. Receives and coordinates special projects and assignments from IRB Chair and/or Associate Vice President. 4. Drafts and edits correspondence and forms as requested. 5. Processes incoming applications, disseminates protocols to IRB Chair and committee members. 6. Maintains agenda and minutes for IRB meetings. 7. Manages security and organization of protocols and other documents during IRB meetings. 8. Ensures that the IRB Chair and appropriate committee members receive clear and definitive messages, copies, and faxes including special instructions or critical guidance.

20% - HSPP management
1. Manages HSPP operations by establishing processes and procedures. 2. Prioritizes work to meet HSPP needs, managing the planning, organizing, communications and decision-making in consultation with the IRB Chair and Associate Vice President. 3. Works in a team environment with the Chair and members of the Institutional Review Board. Contributes to maintaining a professionally calm office in stressful situations.  

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. At least 3 years experience working in an institution of higher education. 3. Excellent written and oral communication skills. 4. Ability to work independently, handle matters confidentially, solve problems, and make decisions appropriate to the position. 5. Detail-oriented, organized and able to manage multiple tasks concurrently. 6. Ability to interact positively with a wide range of people within the University and with external audiences. 7. High levels of competency in Microsoft Office products and calendaring.  

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience with regulatory requirements for Human Subjects Protection as detailed by the office of Health and Human Services. Experience working in a diverse environment.
