The Coordinator of Tutoring and Early Alert is responsible for assisting the Associate Director of Academic Success in the oversight of tutoring services and administering the Early Alert process. This position ensures the smooth internal operations of the Tutoring Center and supervises 60+ tutors. This position develops partnerships and creates programming for various stakeholders in the campus community. This position works closely with other center staff to provide academic tutoring support to students. This position also collaborates with constituents of the Student Academic Success Center (SASC), information technology, student services, and academic/advising staff to offer services to meet the needs of students through the Early Alert process.
(45%) Coordination of Internal Tutoring Center Operations and Outreach: This position will be responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating 60+ tutoring center student staff. This position will work to support administrative staff with front desk operations relating to tutoring. This position will be responsible for creating the tutoring schedule every semester. This position will maintain content on the website and data tracking system related to tutoring schedules, program services, center usage and online tutoring services. This position will attend and provide training for site and data management. The Coordinator will develop and implement a communication plan to advertise services provided by the center to students and other campus constituents. This position also coordinates the delivery of online tutoring services provided by outside vendors.
(45%) Administer Early Alert Program: Collaborate and coordinate with designated IT contact to establish lists of targeted students from all participating programs for Early Alerts. Use analytical skills to identify problems with the system and ensure they are solved. Assist IT contact with notification to all students on warning, probation, and suspension and create well written, informative letters that convey the importance of students connecting with support services as appropriate. Send communications and timelines to administrators, schools and coordinators of populations monitored by Early Alert. Apply vast knowledge of the university to oversee a computerized tracking system for targeted students participating in Early Alerts. Effectively serve students whose professors have provided Early Alert feedback. Coordinate a reporting process to provide accurate statistics and reports to a variety of academic and student affairs areas at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Write, edit and manage web content for Early Alert program via Site Manager. Review, disburse and manage lists of student alerts for staff to contact. Responsible for interfacing with key student service programs to remain informed regarding changes in policies and procedures involving retention of MSU Denver students. The coordinator will be expected to use professional judgment to integrate these policies and procedures into the operations of the Early Alert program. The coordinator will also be responsible for the supervision of student staff. This includes recruitment, hiring, training and evaluation.
(10%) Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Academic Success. The Coordinator will assist and support comprehensive retention management initiatives. Represent the programs on various University committees/task-forces related to student retention and academic support student issues and stay current on Early Alert/Tutoring best practices and software.
•Master’s degree in behavioral sciences, education, social sciences, psychology, communications or other related areas.
•One year experience working with students or clients providing academic or personal support.
•Experience working in a position providing support and assistance to students.
•The successful candidate must also have one-year of supervisory experience of either professional or para-professionals (work-study) personnel.
•Demonstrated experience to develop procedures and manage implementation of tutoring operations.
•Experience posting and updating information on the internet.
•Experience working with database software.
•5 years of experience working with computers and standard computer applications such as Windows, Microsoft Word, and/or Excel, Access and letter/email generation is required.
