Provide scene shop management, paint shop management, properties management, and additional support for the Theatre Department productions in the King Center (300-seat proscenium, a 120-seat black box) as well as the Arts Building (110-seat production studio laboratory space).
Serve as the manager of the Metro State Theatre Department scene-shop and related spaces under the direction of the faculty Technical Director. Manage, schedule, and supervise work-study students, practicum students, intro to theatre students, stagecraft students, BFA students, support staff, and volunteers. Implement the structural elements used in scenery, in the theatres' rigging systems, and in the construction of sets and props. Must be able to work in the collaborative structure of the Theatre Department. Ability to work with construction/production calendars on a full scale theatre production project. Ability to assist in the supervision and construction of properties for productions. Ability to work with a diverse variety of stage construction materials including wood, steel, plastics, and foam. Work within technical budgets. Assist in project scheduling. Directly supervise and implement construction, and maintain shops, shop equipment, production equipment, and storage areas. Work with technical faculty and staff to develop and maintain theatre department facilities, lab spaces, technology, and storage. Assist in coordinating performing arts facility shared spaces with two other institutions and the performing arts facility staff. Develop and implement training for various theatre safety programs. Perform and direct maintenance and inventory of theatre department equipment including shop tools and stage machinery. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair/Director of Theatre, Production Manager, and Technical Director. The program offers a BA in Theatre and a BFA with concentrations in Music Theatre and Applied Theatre Technology and Design. The position reports to the Chair/Director of Theatre. The candidate must possess the willingness to schedule time around theatre production needs. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population.
