Detailed Job Description

The purpose of this position is to contribute to the professional and educational development of specialty/support/academic advisors, advising administrators, and students. This is done by coordinating the development, implementation and maintenance of advisor certification and common training programs; developing outstanding training and development sessions; and by coaching advisors regarding training requirements and effective advising practices.
Essential Functions, Major Duties, and Accountabilities:
Analyze the needs for and coordinate the academic advisor certification program; common training programs for specialty and support advisors; and New Advisor Training.
Maintain the ATD training catalog.
Develop training content and deliver/facilitate online and in-person training and development sessions for academic, support, specialty and career advisors/counselors.
Select and develop teaching aids such as manuals, handbooks, demonstration modes, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, and reference works.
Collaborate and maintain positive relationships with other campus departments. Provide support, counsel and coaching for advisors and advising units.
Advise and counsel students regarding their career and academic goals.
Conduct evaluation and assessment of assigned duties and provide timely reports and data regarding student/advisor ratios, the Structured Enrollment program, progress reports, and other areas as assigned.
Represent UVU by regularly attending and presenting at conferences related to academic advising and career counseling, higher education technologies, and training and development.
Perform other job related duties as assigned.  

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a Bachelor's degree in Advising/Counseling, Training and Development, or a related field and three years full-time paid experience related to the summary of duties OR any combination of education and experience related to the summary of duties totaling seven years.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of advisement and retention principles, techniques, programs and products.
Considerable knowledge of training and professional development principles, techniques, programs and products
Knowledge of research methodology as applied to the fields of advising/counseling and training.
Considerable knowledge of instructional technologies, and various computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, media internet tools, email systems, performance monitoring tools, social media, and other general computer programs.
Ability to operate and effectively use a variety of digital media technologies especially instructional technology products.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with university officials.
Ability to research and prepare proposals.
General knowledge of advisement principles and current career outlook.
Skill in the development of effective in-person and online training programs.
Service oriented and ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
Skill in analyzing needs and developing applicable training and materials.
Exemplary organization skills.
Effective and engaging presentation skills.
Advising/counseling skills.
