Brief Description

This recruitment is being conducted to establish a list of eligible candidates that will be used to fill current and upcoming vacancies for the duration of the list, not to exceed one year. The current vacancy is a 12 month, 100% assignment at Oxnard College.

Under the direction of the Learning Resources Supervisor or other assigned supervisor, plan, organize, and coordinate the activities of the Supplemental Instruction (SI) and Interdisciplinary Study (IDS) programs and other special tutoring activities as needed. Serve as a liaison between faculty, tutors, and students; conduct data research and analysis to support programs. Provide instructional support services to learning resources as needed.

Job Duties

 Collaborate with faculty and/or staff to identify SI needs for each discipline and/or department. E

Develop, coordinate and implement supplemental instruction activities; collaborate with other college retention-related programs on the development of SI program materials. E

Recruit, select, train and provide work direction to SI leaders (Supplemental Instruction tutors) and student assistants; schedule hours, monitor performance, prepare and process payroll and other related records. E

Interview, assess needs, and schedule students requesting services; provide assistance with appointment scheduling and assessment as needed. E

Coordinate program communication among students, tutors, faculty, SI leaders and other departments. E

Conduct outreach activities to disseminate information regarding SI programs and independent study workshops; promote services by attending meetings and creating marketing materials such as brochures, posters, literature, and website content. E

Research and collect pertinent SI and IDS (Interdisciplinary Study) data, including information on course completion rates, student participation and success rates, continued enrollment, student grades, tutor hours, types of learning activities, etc. Survey participants; compile data into meaningful reports for college management needs. E

Monitor budget of assigned area; make budget recommendations as appropriate. E

Participate in a variety of meetings and workshops, including planning and assessment sessions with faculty, SI leaders, and students; attend related staff meetings, tutorial conferences and workshops. E

Serve as the lead staff for the Tutoring Center as needed; schedule individual tutoring appointments and group sessions. Provide instructional support services to learning resources as needed. E

Perform a variety of clerical and technical functions related to programs; maintain program records and files. E

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination equivalent to: a Bachelor's degree in an academic area with supplemental course work in education or related field and one year of experience administering a supplemental instruction or tutoring program; or one year of full-time teaching experience.

Required Selection Process

This is an examination open to the public and current district employees seeking a promotional opportunity. To ensure consideration, please submit your application materials by May 21, 2015.

The examination process will consist of the following components:

A) Training and Experience Evaluation (T&E) = Qualifying (pass/fail)
B) Technical Interview = 100% weighting on final score

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications stated by the filing deadline in order to move forward in the testing process. Those candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will have their application materials reviewed during a Training and Experience Evaluation (T&E). A T&E is an assessment of training and experience that has prepared the candidate for the position. Those with the highest scores on the T&E will be invited to the technical interview. All communication regarding this process will be delivered via email.

Salary Range

 $4021.00 - $5546.00

Starting Salary

$4021.00 - $5546.00 - Employees shall be placed on the appropriate step of the salary range based on directly related education and experience that exceeds the minimum qualifications for the classification. Salary placement is subject to verification of qualifying education and experience and applicable collective bargaining agreements and/or Personnel Commission rules.

Evaluation of minimum qualifications will be based solely on the information provided in your application at the time you apply. Please be sure to answer every component of each supplemental question as your responses will be scored and serve as your score on the training and experience evaluation. Appearance before the oral examination (interview) board will be limited to the candidates with the highest T&E scores. For your application to be considered, the supplemental questions must be completed in full. Failure to answer the questions as required will result in disqualification.

Upon completion of the examination, the open / promotional eligibility list will be compiled by combining the final examination score with applicable seniority and veteran's credits, if any. The candidates will be ranked according to their total score on the eligibility list. Certification will be made from the highest three ranks of the eligibility list. This eligibility list will be used to fill the current vacancies up to one year from the date the list is established.

All appointments made from eligibility lists for initial appointment or for promotion shall be probationary for a period of six (6) months or one hundred thirty (130) days of paid service whichever is longer.
