Detailed Job Description

Job ID:  930.  The Community Engagement Coordinator will serve as the primary liaison between the Office of Community Engagement and Service and all school or community based partnerships focused on educational engagement. The Community Engagement Coordinator will supervise three tutoring programs within OCES: the America Reads (AR) and America Counts (AC) federally funded work-study programs, and the Adopt A School (AAS) volunteer program. The Community Engagement Coordinator will also support office-wide initiatives to publicize programming and recognize volunteers and community partners. This position reports to the Director.


The Community Engagement Coordinator will:

  • Manage relationships with schools and after-school programs and coordinate placements.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate America Reads and Counts student coordinators and tutors.
  • Supervise and train Adopt A School Executive Board and provide support, training, recruitment and fundraising initiatives.
  • Assist the Director and Graduate Assistant with the coordination of education focused Service-Learning courses.
  • Assist with data entry and management of Online Engagement System.
  • Distribute and record receipt of attendance sheets from service sites and manage master attendance list.
  • Serve as a member of the Talawanda Miami Partnership committee.
  • Review and implement assessment tools for tutoring programs.

As part of office-wide initiatives, The Community Engagement Coordinator will assist with:

  • Creation and implementation of a system to recognize volunteers and community agencies for outstanding commitment to service.
  • Management of social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) and newsletter submissions (Parents’ and Alumni) for the Office of Community Engagement & Service.
  • Research and develop promotional materials for OCES.
  • Fostering seamless campus and community partnerships.
  • Division-wide initiatives, events and functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned Masters degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related area by start date.
  • Experience planning community service initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills - oral and written.
  • Effective time management skills with demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands and competing priorities.  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the Office of Community Engagement & Service, its mission and its programming initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Miami University processes and systems.
