The director provides leadership for the Student Academic Success Center (SASC), which includes several integrated retention programs including Immigrant Services, Summer Program, Early Alert, Metro Scholars, Tutoring Center, Transfer Initiatives, and Supplemental Instruction (SI). Programs and Services within the SASC are designed to support and retain students who may struggle academically and socially at MSU Denver.
(30%) Work collaboratively with the Academic and Student Affairs leadership team along with faculty and staff members to develop, implement, and evaluate and recommend programs and services that improve retention and graduation rates for high-risk cohorts, including first generation, low-income, racial and ethnic minorities, men and women.
Engage in effective collaboration in all program areas, such as advising strategies, student recruitment, co-curricular initiatives, diversity programs, peer mentor training and programming, supplemental instruction, faculty outreach and development, data analysis, high impact practices, and budgetary overview.
(15%) Collaborate directly with the First Year Success (FYS) program to insure SASC initiatives effectively support FYS program goals. The Director will work closely with the FYS program to coordinate services for students. This includes close collaboration to identify students who would benefit from the services provided in the SASC. The Director will also partner with the Director of FYS to create retention and persistence programming to support FYS students and all MSU Denver students. The Director will meet with FYS leadership on a regular basis.
(15%) Lead and supervise a staff of 15 professionals in various Student Academic Success Center programs. The director will be responsible for hiring, training, supervision and ongoing performance management of staff. Also will provide program oversight for the SASC. The Director will oversee various retention and persistence programs and personnel including but not limited to Immigrant Services, Metro Scholars, mentoring programs including but not limited to, Brother to Brother, Summer Program, as well as Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, and Transfer Initiatives and student support programs. The Director will ensure the services and processes of each area of responsibility support the mission of the division and the University, and are efficient, effective, and student-centered. This includes analyzing and interpreting data, using strong writing skills to produce written reports, and supervising staff, and developing performance goals, setting expectations and conducting annual performance evaluations. The position leads staff meetings and planning sessions and coordinates professional development opportunities for staff.
(10%) Provide sound fiscal management for all SASC initiatives. This position manages, plans and administers the budget, monitors fiscal records, and makes expenditures in accordance with the Director of Student Persistence, and institutional, state and federal guidelines. Oversees purchasing and reconciliation of transactions posted to the university Banner finance system, and submits budget reports to Director of Student Persistence.
(20%) Effectively manage and lead assessment efforts for SASC including evaluation of current programs, data analysis and making data based decisions for improvement or modification of programmatic efforts towards improvement. Work closely with the Director of Student Persistence to identify achievable benchmarks and appropriate metrics for programmatic success in the areas of student retention and persistence to graduation.
(5%) Provide outreach to various community stakeholders, i.e. high schools and community organizations to ensure smooth transition into MSU Denver.
(5%) Serve on various committees as assigned. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described above.
Master’s degree in an area of higher education administration, Education, Human Services, Psychology, Behavioral Sciences, or related field.
•Minimum of five years’ progressively responsible experience in a higher education environment.
•Three years of experience supervising and conducting performance management for professional staff.
•Experience collaborating with faculty and staff to create or implement a program or project.
•Experience implementing a program or program initiatives that support student persistence
•Training or experience utilizing best practices or strategies encouraging higher education retention.
•Experience providing customer service.
•Experience providing support services or implementing programs focused on fostering student success or student persistence.
•Experience managing program and department budgets in compliance with state, Federal and institutional policies and procedures.
•Experience conducting data analysis for program improvement or to determine programmatic services or needs.
•Earned Doctorate Degree
•At least three years of experience in a position of Director or above that requires management over professional staff and/or programs.
•Experienced leader with a commitment to service

•Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills.
•Experience using Banner or related Student Information Database System.
•Experience using Financial Software programs to manage budgets and create financial reports.

A proven record of effective written, oral communications, and interpersonal skills.
Experience working with diverse, urban student populations that include first generation, underrepresented, traditional, transfer, and non-traditional student populations.
