The Miami University Libraries seeks self-motivated, innovative, customer-focused candidates for our resident librarian program to serve in the Technical Services Department focusing on Collection Access & Acquisitions. The position receives a one year appointment, renewable for two years, dependent upon funding and performance. The Libraries are committed to introducing the recent graduate to the complexities of academic librarianship in a rapidly changing environment. To accomplish this, the successful candidate will spend up to three weeks in an orientation and training program introducing the resident to all departments of the Libraries.
Following this orientation, the resident’s assignments in Technical Services will include some or all of the following: electronic resource ordering and management; monographic orders and cataloging; update and maintenance of the discovery service/catalog; and general departmental support including documentation maintenance, statistics collection, analysis and reporting, and project management as assigned.
The resident will also have the option of selecting a second area of concentration outside the Technical Services department. With the approval of the respective supervisors and the Dean, the resident may be assigned to work in both areas, thereby broadening his/her experience.
These options will include: general reference service (including some evening and weekends); the Libraries’ instruction program; the Center for Digital Scholarship; Special Collections and/or the Archives; and library administration.
Recent completion (2013 or later) of a Master's degree program in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution; the degree must be completed by the date of appointment. Also, experience and/or training in Technical Services operations; excellent oral and written communication skills; a familiarity with and knowledge of advancing technologies; ability to work collegially in a team environment; and the initiative and ability to conceive and carry out projects.
Experience with statistics collection and reporting; experience and/or training in electronic resource management systems and applications; experience and/or training with the RDA cataloging standard; and experience and/or aptitude for coding and/or scripting in such languages as PHP.
