Detailed Job Description

FULL-TIME ADMISSIONS/ACADEMIC COUNSELOR: (Enrollment Services) (Primarily Haverhill Campus Career Planning and Advising Center) 37.5 hours per week, with adjustable/varied work hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate off campus recruitment activities, special events, activities and assignments, and during peak enrollment periods (MCC/MTA Unit Position) Anticipated starting date:  July 1,2015

The Admissions/Academic Counselor will work with the Admissions and Recruitment team; serve as a member of the One-Stop Student Services Team and reports to the Director of Admissions & Recruitment.  The position includes recruitment and related activities for adult and high school populations, Dual Enrollment/Early College program participants and with international students.  S/he will practice comprehensive developmental advising and enrollment services (with an emphasis on financial aid) to support prospective, new and returning students within the One Stop Student Services Centers.  As a productive member of the Admissions and Recruitment Team, working to meet the enrollment goals of the department and the college as a whole, s/he will:

  • Represent the college at high schools, college fairs, financial aid nights, community agencies and youth programs, alternative high schools, after school -programs, businesses, on and off campus special events.
  • Design & implement recruitment strategies
  • Plan and conduct open houses, tours and information sessions.
  • Conduct ongoing outreach and support to prospective, new and returning students in person, via email, mail, telephone and other current communication/media means.
  • Develop partnerships and program with local schools, business and agencies promoting NECC opportunities
  • Participate in the development and execution of the college's recruitment and communication plans
  • Partner with academic and other college departments to enhance recruitment and outreach activities for the college
  • Participate in college committees
  • Assist with intake and data tracking of prospective students
  • Maintain a recruitment calendar of activities for the year
  • Act as DSO and provide advice and counseling to prospective students engaged in the international student admission process
  • Prepare reports on recruitment activities using Banner, Argos, Microsoft and other applications
  • Other duties as assigned

Master's Degree required and three years of experience/training in college admissions, recruitment and advising with the ability to work effectively with demonstrated commitment to diversity and student success.  Excellent interpersonal, written communication and dynamic presentation skills required.  Strong candidates will be expected to be engaging, charismatic, well organized, resourceful, and flexible and have the ability to work independently on a variety of projects and as a member of a team.

Experience working in a fast paced environment as an admissions representative, planning and implementing recruitment activities and events or in a customer service/sales environment desired.  The ideal candidate will be able to develop an idea and see it through to fruition, while juggling multiple tasks in an organized fashion.  Proficiency with Microsoft applications is expected.  Knowledge of Student information systems (preferably Banner by Ellucian) and SEVIS is desired.  

Preference may be given to those with prior experience working or studying in a 2-year/Community College setting, developmental advising experience or having worked with socially, culturally linguistically & economically diverse populations.    Eligibility to serve as a Designated School Official for the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) is and experience working with international students a plus.  Travel and transportation to events required.   Must have the ability to lift and transport recruitment materials.  Bi-lingual, English/Spanish preferred.

Salary: $52,564.00 - $73,639.00 annually with complete fringe benefit package. Actual salary calculated in compliance with MCCC/MTA classification system; Pay grade 5
