FULL TIME E-LEARNING DESIGNER (COORDINATOR OF ACADEMIC COMPUTING): (Department of Instructional Technology and Distance Learning) 37.5 hours per week, additional hours and travel will be required as circumstances necessitate. (MCCC/MTA Unit Position) Anticipated start date: September, 2012

The E-Learning Developer works in the Center for Instructional Technology and Distance Learning to develop and maintain instructional technology and best practices for faculty, courses and programs. The candidate for this position is expected to effectively integrate instructional design principles and effective use of instructional technology. The platforms include Blackboard Learn, live video conferencing, and other emerging technologies. The e-Learning Designer reports to the Director of Instructional Technology and Distance Learning.

• Work in collaboration with the CIT team and faculty and staff to develop and improve instructional materials for web-based courses and learning materials using best practices in instructional design

• Plan, design, and implement educational materials; assist in designing/producing curricular materials utilizing emerging academic and digital learning technologies and assess their potential for effective use in teaching and learning

• Assist in the creation of course templates and support materials

• Create written and interactive tutorials and reference materials for a wide variety of technologies

• Provide support and technical assistance in the development of new instructional methods for online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses in the current learning management system

• Provide training and customer service to faculty, staff and students with regard to the learning management system and other emerging technologies

• Maintain professional knowledge in applicable areas (i.e. – maintain a working knowledge of assigned area; research new technologies, products, trends, and advances in the profession; read professional literature; attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions)

• Perform additional related duties as assigned


Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Educational or Instructional Technology or closely related field

• Intermediate to advanced skills in web and educational based technologies such as Microsoft Office 2010, Camtasia, most recent Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, and HTML 5

• Experience involving curriculum or course design

• Experience providing technical training in group and individual sessions to a variety of skill levels

• Experience with learning management systems, especially Blackboard Learn

• Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design, integrative learning principles and educational technologies

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse constituencies. Must have a friendly demeanor and excellent listening skills

• Strong interpersonal and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential



Master's degree in Instructional Design, Digital Media Design or related field

• Professional experience in instructional design, curriculum design, and digital media creation

• Higher education teaching experience, preferably at the community college level

• Ability to work with and troubleshoot PC, Macintosh and mobile environments

• Knowledge of educational applications of social media


Salary: $55,391.00 - $80,317.00, with complete fringe benefit package. Actual salary calculated in compliance with MCCC/MTA classification system; Pay grade #6.
