Detailed Job Description

The Office of Alumni Relations (OAR), in collaboration with the Tufts University Alumni Association (TUAA), strives to build life-long relationships with alumni and students of Tufts University. This is accomplished through extensive programming initiatives on the Tufts campuses throughout the United States and abroad.

The Alumni Relations Officer will have responsibility for the following:

Class Reunions - Work with current cycle of class reunions. Assist in the recruiting and training of class committee members and class agents. Build agendas and communications/marketing pieces on behalf of committee to encourage classmates to return to Tufts for reunion experience. Work with external and internal vendors to select menus, venues and all aspects of class reunion experience.

Major Alumni Events - Alumni Weekend and Young Alumni Weekend/Back to the Hill. Work with Outreach and Engagement team to design, build, and execute major Alumni Relations programs. Work with internal departments including police, Facilities, Catering, Conference Bureau, etc, to set up major events. Work with external vendors (restaurants, hotels, etc.) to request bids, select menus, choose venues, on behalf of Tufts and class committees. Must be physically willing and able to set up and take down events. Must be willing to move event supplies around campus from OAR offices to venues both on and off campus.

Student Programs - Work with members of the Outreach and Engagement team to design student specific programming that will encourage students to engage with alumni and to build strong student spirit that will carry-over into their alumni status. Create programs that will encourage student/alumni engagement and communications.

Homecoming - Work with members of the Outreach and Outreach team to design, plan, and execute Homecoming weekend. Work with internal departments: Police, Facilities, Catering, Athletics, etc. in menu and venue selection. Work with Tufts Alumni Council's Homecoming Committee in planning and executing their event.

Other Alumni Relations Duties as assigned - There are many events and programming occurring during the year. Assist Outreach and Engagement team in running these events. Also assist other teams in OAR in setting up and taking down event venues.

Basic Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree
• Minimum of three (3) years related experience in alumni relations, development and/or volunteer management
• Experience with Microsoft Office
• Strong project/time management, organizational and interpersonal skills are required
• Should have demonstrable ability to interact with a broad range of people and constituencies and be able to work as part of a team, as well as independently
• Excellent diplomacy and communication (oral and written) skills are mandatory as is the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Some domestic/international travel will be required

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience working with volunteers, particularly committees, is preferred. Must be willing and able to physically set up and break down event venues. Tufts alumni are strongly encouraged. Experience with the Advance database system is a plus.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Must be able and willing to work irregular schedule. Some weeknights (approx. 2-3 per month) and all or part of some weekends (approx. 3-4 per year) will be required. Willingness and ability to travel both domestically and internationally.
