The Communications Specialist works with a department or area to develop and implement communication plans and activities to support the goals of a specific department, a college and/or The University.

Additional Department Summary:

The Communication Specialist position provides support to the Center for Advanced Public Safety (CAPS) within the Department of Computer Science. This position assists the Marketing Department within CAPS by planning, developing processes and strategies and implementing social media campaigns for CAPS and its external sponsors. Other duties include assisting in the maintenance of websites and web content, creating content for press releases, editorials and articles for publishing in print and on web and collaborating with the marketing team on brainstorming, planning and completing marketing and public awareness campaigns.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Marketing, Advertising or related field and one (1) year experience in journalism, public relations, or other communications related experience OR Master's degree. Related student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student oriented experience will be considered. To be considered student experience, it must be detailed in the employment section on the application.

Skills and Knowledge:

Writing, editing, proofreading, technical writing, content development. Quick learner, ability to take complicated technical concepts and interpret them for a non-technical reader. Organizational skills, ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with social media such as Facebook and Twitter for advertising and publicity purposes. Web site content design experience. Experience writing press releases, articles, brochures and other marketing materials. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud software preferred but not required. HTML knowledge preferred, but not required. 56 Monthly (exempt): - Minimum - $ 28537.56 Midpoint - $ 39956.76
