Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing & Public Relations, the Regional Director of Public Relations is responsible for internal and external communications, working closely with academic and administrative offices to develop and implement strategies and objectives that promote regional campus bachelor’s and associate degrees, campus programs and events, and success stories among regional campus students, faculty and staff.
Responsible for regional campus public relations, community outreach, news media relations, writing and editing, position/white papers, speeches, fliers, brochures, and responses to inquiry. Oversee communications activities supporting the regional campus mission. Develop and implement communication strategies and objectives, working closely with academic and administrative offices; particularly, Enrollment Management, Marketing, Student Affairs, and the Office of the Campus Dean. This position supports both regional campuses in Hamilton and Middletown, Voice of America Learning Center in West Chester, and Greentree Health Science Academy in Middletown.
Job entails writing and editing news releases and feature stories highlighting student and faculty/staff accomplishments and successes, and campus/community programs and events. Pitch/place stories in traditional (TV, radio, print) and existing, new and emerging social media outlets. Write/edit and review/approve copy for the College of Professional Studies & Applied Sciences and academic department fliers, videos, intercampus digital signage, newsletters, emails, websites, etc.
Develop relationships with internal and external constituents, and market student programs and events on campus and in the community. Build mutually-beneficial relationships between campus and business/civic leaders in local communities. Facilitate student and faculty connections with local business and civic leaders to develop/strengthen opportunities for students in service learning, volunteerism and placement, working closely with regional civic engagement and career services personnel.
Serve as spokesperson for regional campuses as needed. Serve as backup emergency contact with responsibility for on-call communications, and accurate and timely internal and external communications during campus closings or delays due to inclement weather or incident.
Work closely with marketing and enrollment management teams to develop marketing materials, and promote messages to prospective students and parents/guardians. Advise senior administrators of campus and/or community issues and concerns.
Edit all external communications and marketing materials to ensure consistency of message. Assist in coordination of special events.
Requires membership and active participation in local civic and business organizations.
Other duties as assigned. Some evening and weekend work required.
Bachelor’s degree in communications and three years of progressively more responsible experience in the field. Strong writing and public speaking skills. Ability to liaise and coordinate effectively with academic, administrative and student affairs departments.
Master’s degree in communications or related field. Thorough understanding of changing technologies and trends in public relations and mass communications. Familiarity with technical and digital communications.
