Detailed Job Description

Assists teachers in planning, preparing and coordinating math, reading and/or enrichment learning activities and curriculum; attends classroom time, class activities and field trips with assigned class and teacher; ensures the safety and appropriate behavior of elementary age students; mentors students, helping with homework as needed during class, as directed by assigned teacher. Grades homework, special assignments, quizzes and tests completed by students. Maintains accurate records, as directed by assigned teacher, of student performance.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent education plus six months to one year of related experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference given to college students majoring in elementary education
Experience in mentoring/tutoring elementary students


Knowledge of basic reading and math skills
Experience working with children and youth
Computer basics including Microsoft suite


Skill in effective verbal and written communication
Skill in working independently with dependability
Skill in maintaining accurate records


Ability to work with young children
Ability to relate to a diverse group of students
Ability to follow-through with assignments, schedules and reporting hours
Ability to assess student work according to general instructions
Ability to demonstrate professionalism as a representative of UVU

Pay Range

$9.49 - $11.86
