The Department of Interior Design is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor in Interior Design.

The teaching responsibilities of this position include teaching and research in one of the following areas: interior construction, building systems, digital technology (Computer Aided Design and Drafting, 3D imaging and printing) and sustainable design. Additional position responsibilities will include assistance in the development and delivery of an on-line bridging program for graduates of two-year Interior Design Technology programs in Alberta.

The successful candidate will be an innovative leader with strong interpersonal and communication skills who thrives in a collaborative team environment. The position will commence January 1, 2016. 

The Interior Design program has an integrated, holistic, team-based approach to design education. Faculty in the program actively engage in curriculum review, course development and the implementation of department initiatives such as bridging the program with other design institutions, associations and industry. The program is transitioning from a CIDA accredited Bachelor of Applied Interior Design degree to a Baccalaureate Interior Design degree program. The new BID program is anticipated to start in the Fall semester of 2015.

Mount Royal University is a teaching focused institution, with two work patterns.  The teaching/service (TS) pattern has a focus on teaching and service.  The teaching/scholarship/service (TSS) pattern has a focus on teaching with the requirement that the faculty member be involved in a research program as well as service to the Mount Royal community. Although there are two teaching patterns, applicants interested in this advertised position will be hired on the TS pattern.

Required qualifications:

  • Must possess at least on academic credential in Interior Design and/or commensurate experience in Interior Design practice or academic education/research
  • Master’s degree in Interior Design or in a relevant area as defined by the discipline
  • NCIDQ or LEED certification is considered as asset
  • Minimum 5 years interior design related teaching

Preferred qualifications:

  • Professional experience 3 years
  • Aptitude and passion in teaching: interior construction, building systems, digital technology (Computer Aided Design and Drafting, 3D imaging and printing) and sustainable design
  • Record of experience in the development and delivery of on-line interior design courses
  • Highly skilled in computer programs associated related to interior design and architecture practice
  • Record of developing and implementing academic programs and courses
  • Record of development and participation in cross-disciplinary endeavours
