The Dean of Student Affairs Office provides a comprehensive system of activities, support and advocacy for students and their families. The office aims to engage the "whole" student in his or her experience as an undergraduate or graduate student, striving to bring together the curricular and co-curricular agendas of the university. The office develops and implements policies that address university rules, student behavior, student safety, privacy, legal issues, liability management, and grievance mechanisms, including addressing issues and cases concerning academic integrity and sexual misconduct. The Dean's staff also provides an around the clock on-call system at all times when the college is in session to manage any emergencies and coordinate services with appropriate authorities, students, their families, and the media. The office oversees programs to develop student leadership, student governance structures, and an ongoing bias intervention project.
The programs included in the Dean of Student Affairs division include the Office for Campus Life, the Office of Residential Life & Learning, Judicial Affairs, Medical and Health Accommodations, the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Programs, the Program for Commuting Students, the Behavioral Intervention Team for students of concern and the deans' on call system and a bias intervention program.
The Student Affairs Coordinator works directly with the Dean of Student Affairs and independently on a variety of ongoing projects and tasks. Some of these include:
• helping plan and facilitate the programs of the Dean of Students for the Tufts community;
• monitoring division budgets and other work involving the student affairs departments;
• communication with students, faculty, and families; communication to the student body;
• mangement of the content of the department's websites and publications;
• coordination of the Student Life Fund;
• coordination of the work of the Student Affair's part of the University's plan for the safety of minors;
• and monitoring and tracking spending and equipment inventories, etc.
The Student Affairs Coordinator serves in the department's efforts and or represents the dean in protocols for crisis management, emergency commuication systems and contingency preparedness. The position also manages the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs, including the hiring and supervision of office workers (graduate student employees).
• Bachelor's degree
• Minimum of two (2) years of related experience are required
• Experience with word processing, Web Content Management (Microsoft Expression or FrontPage) and Spreadsheets
Graduate Studies in Higher Education or a related field are preferred. A career interest in Student Affairs is a plus.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Some of the work of this position will occur outside of the regular work day, since facilitation of the programs of the office occurs in the evening.
