Detailed Job Description

Create and maintain a productive learning environment for students in the band programs. Rehearse and conduct band ensembles. Teach conducting and wind-band literature and methods courses, as well as other courses assigned by the department. Carry out scholarly and creative activities that promote the band program and enhance
professional qualifications. Collaborate with other faculty to promote high standards of musicianship. Work closely with band programs in community schools to promote educational quality and for student recruitment. Provide service to the university, community, and profession through appropriate assignments and activities as approved by the
department.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university. Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a Doctorate or PhD in Music.

Knowledge

Knowledge of the principles and methodology of band conducting

Knowledge of the principles and methodology of wind band pedagogy and literature

Skills

Proven skills as an accomplished teacher and conductor

Skills in recruiting, interviewing and placement of students

Abilities

Ability to develop curriculum and teach designed courses

Ability to work closely with music educators in community schools

Ability to carry out appropriate scholarly/creative work with high professional standards

Ability to collaborate with faculty for auditions in winds, brass, and percussion

Commitment to maintaining appropriate professional standards in all interactions with students and colleagues

Pay Range

$52,000 - $54,000
