The successful candidate will teach undergraduate core music theory courses and supervise graduate teaching assistants who teach musicianship. In addition, the successful candidate will teach upper divisional undergraduate theory and graduate course as needed. MUS 115-Theory I-4hrs., MUS 117-Theory II-4 hrs., MUS 307 Form and Analysis-3 hrs., MUS 516-Problems in Music Theory-3hrs., MUS 595-Graduate Theory Review-3hrs.


The School of Music at the University of Alabama invites applications for a full-time temporary Instructor of Music Theory. This position is a non-tenure earning, 1-year appointment with the possibility of reappointment.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate core music theory courses and supervise graduate teaching assistants who teach musicianship, as well as upper divisional undergraduate theory and graduate courses as needed. Course load: maximum of 12 credit hours of teaching per semester; typically two course preparations per semester, not to exceed three.

Ph.D. in music theory required; candidates currently working on dissertations will be considered. Successful college teaching experience is required.
