Detailed Job Description

The Tufts Fund for Arts, Sciences and Engineering is critical to the successful operation of the arts, sciences and engineering programs at Tufts University as it currently raises $8+ million dollars annually, with nearly 80% of that toward unrestricted budget-relieving purposes. Gifts made through the annual giving program support the undergraduate colleges by providing restricted support for myriad of overarching priorities like financial aid, faculty salaries, curriculum development and student activities as well as unrestricted support. In addition, the Tufts Fund staff plays a significant role in strengthening alumni participation in Tufts' fundraising efforts. The Tufts Fund is a critical entry point for young alumni participation, setting the stage for long term philanthropy at Tufts, and it is a resource for developing middle level giving and identifying future major gift prospects.

The Assistant Director is a key member of the frontline fundraising team responsible for raising a large portion of the annual goal for arts, sciences and engineering fundraising priorities. This position will travel extensively throughout the United States to qualify and solicit a portfolio of 150+ alumni, friends and parent prospects. Assigned an initial portfolio of prospects, the expectation will be that he/she will build a prospect pool by screening prospect lists to identify particular targets for growth, retention and acquisition. The Assistant Director will participate in formal prospect review meetings and work closely with colleagues in major gifts to coordinate Packard Society solicitations of $1,000 - $50,000+ for leadership annual giving prospects. She/he will also assist the Tufts Fund Gift Officer program by recruiting alumni to serve in a volunteer, peer-to-peer fundraising capacity. This position requires frequent travel as well as nights and weekend work.
