Detailed Job Description
This position will offer support to students who choose to disclose a disability, as well as provide learning skills and strategies support, to the students at the North Haven campus.
Support a wide range of individual students in learning skills and strategies. With an emphasis on test preparation and test taking, time management etc.
Identify and support at-risk students enrolled in Quinnipiac University at the North Haven campus.
Ensure that students with disabilities are allowed reasonable accommodations as stated in Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990.
Analyze disability documentation to determine reasonable accommodations, and to communicate those reasonable accommodations to faculty.
Maintain records on students with disabilities including a student's request for reasonable accommodations, permission for release of information, notes of meetings with the student, and disability reports.
Act as an advocate, facilitator, and expeditor between faculty and students with disabilities.
Act as a resource for faculty and administration on the ADA and Disability Rights, and assist faculty and staff with academic intervention and support strategies.
Contact/referral person for students with disabilities and their parents when challenges arise.
Maintain active membership in appropriate professional organizations and attend applicable conferences/workshops.
Contact person for parents and potential students during pre-admission exploration and the admissions process.
Additional responsibilities as deemed necessary by the director.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Three to five years' experience that must include analysis of disability documentation, ADA/504 support, academic counseling, and skills assessment, preferably in a post-secondary institution.
Superlative interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
Proven organizational ability.
Competency with a Windows-based platform and applications; a working knowledge of Datatel is advantageous.
Experience developing and evaluating instructional technology preferred.
Learning skills assessment and instruction.
Master's Degree in Learning Disabilities/Special Education is required.
